V-rings are commonly made of nitrile rubber, which is characterized by good chemical resistance, wear resistance, and can be used in applications with normal operating temperatures. For applications with higher temperatures or where aggressive media are present, V-rings made of fluororubber can be supplied. Please refer to the manufacturer's website for the permissible operating conditions for V-rings made of nitrile or fluororubber. The letters R and V shall be used in the product name after the type designation to designate nitrile rubber and fluorine rubber respectively. SKF offers five standard V-ring designs: VR1/VA is the most common type of V-ring, it has a standard cross section and a flat back - typically used to protect bearing arrangements in gearboxes, electric motors and drives; VR2/VS, which has a standard low cross-section, a chamfered backside, and a wide body that provides a firm hold on the shaft - is commonly used in agricultural and automotive applications; VR3/VL is designed with a very compact axial cross-section - is commonly used in confined spaces as a replacement for labyrinth seals; VR4/VE is designed as a secondary seal for demanding applications where the primary seal must be protected from water and/or solid contaminants, the design has the largest cross section of any V-ring design and also allows for the largest axial displacements - available in a diameter range of 300 to 2,010 mm (11.811 to 79.134 inches); VR6/VRME is a durable, large diameter V-ring for applications with large axial displacements, it can be placed axially and radially on the shaft using a standard band clamp - it is primarily designed to protect high speed bearings in rolling mills, papermaking and other large machine applications. The VR6/VRME is similar in shape to the VR5/VRM, except that it does not have an extension to the rear. It retains the function of the saddle for axial and radial positioning on the shaft by means of a belt clip. VR6/VRME is available to order. V-rings from SKF are available for different shaft diameter ranges. If the shaft diameter is in the appropriate range for two V-rings, you should always choose the larger V-ring. In addition, special sizes and designs, including split versions, can be made to order. For sizes outside the standard range, please contact us.
